CBC HOSTS WINE TASTING CHALLENGE — 11/19/09, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
PROSECCO! — SERIES NO. 14
Community Boating Center, 109 India Street, Providence

Pinot Grigio

Community Boating Center (CBC) will continue hosting a series of wine tasting/contests with a Prosecco varietal event on 11/19!

SPECIAL NOTE: This event is at CBC starting at 7 pm! 109 India Street, Providence, RI 02903

Prosecco is an Italian wine, generally a dry sparkling wine, made from a variety of white grape of the same name. The grape is grown mainly in the Veneto region of Italy, traditionally in an area near Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the hills north of Treviso. The wine, known as the main ingredient of the Bellini cocktail and more recently becoming popular as a less expensive substitute for champagne, is also known under the name of ghera, glera, grappolo spargolo, prosecco balbi, prosecco bianco, prosecco tondo, proseko, sciorina or serprina.

It is believed that Prosecco was already produced in Roman times, possibly as the vinum pucinum praised by Pliny the Elder. It is, at any rate, one of the oldest wine grapes in Italy and ranks about thirtieth in importance among the country’s some 2,000 grape varieties. The name of Prosecco is derived from the northern Italian village of Prosecco

Thank you to everyone who has made this series of events a great success! Look forward to seeing you there!
