Recreational Sailing

Newbies can sign-up for lessons. Old salts can take a challenge test.

NEW - Recreational Paddling
The simplicity of kayaking as an entry-level sport for anyone makes it attractive to get outside, get moving, and embrace a healthy lifestyle. FREE recreational kayaking is now included with adult memberships! Paddle one day as a trial/guest member, or all season, + FREE guest!
We want you to paddle with a friend, so you get up to 2 kayaks/ trip.
- On-the water: Sit-on-top single & double kayaks

New to paddling? Join us for some basic instruction and a guided tour. FREE guided RiverRomp tours offer youth & families a healthy, active alternative to TV, video, and other indoor, static activities.

- Goal: Guided introduction to kayaking

Challenge Tests
All members must pass an on the water skills test to sail or paddle each type of boat* you wish to sail. Students will be evaluated

2012 Adult Summer Classes
Our adult lesson format offers great opportunities for learning and growth with
a highly structured curriculum that allows stepped progression through a variety
of opportunities for beginner, racing or cruising minded sailors.
Our multiple sessions make it easy to create a custom, progressive learning
schedule, or mesh with your work/vacation plans. Adult lessons are offered
in pre-season, and six (6) summer sessions throughout the sailing season.
Most classes are offered on Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs. Build your lesson plan
today enjoy it for a lifetime.

Beginner Sailing I
Enjoy an Ocean State sailing adventure right in your own backyard! Have
fun, learn a lifetime skill, and meet new people. If you enjoy the outdoors,
wind in your face, and the sound of moving water, this class is your link to
the sailing world. Learn safety, rigging, sail trim, and steering. Once confident
in sailing basics, youre ready to advance to Beginner II.

Beginner Sailing II
Progress to more refined sailing skills. The underlying approach in all classes
is to ensure that students enjoy both the challenge and fun of sailing and to
instill the principals of sailing safety, confidence, and self-reliance. Well
reinforce the basics learned in Beginner I, and master the skills of upwind
sailing, boathandling, and heavy-air techniques.

- Course goal: CBC Blue rating
for extended sailing range

Performance Sailing NEW
Friendly, fun, and fast racing is the best way to advance your skills. We take
pressure-to-perform out of the mix with an emphasis on fun. This coaching oriented
lcass coincides with Wednesday Night Racign, a qualifiying series to represent
CBC members in our Renaissance Regatta.
- On-the-water, taught in go-fast boats, Class limit 12
- Prerequisite: Beginner II, FastTrack II, or Director approval
- Course goal: CBC Yellow rating
- Course fee: $100 (meets Wed. only for 3 wks.)

Basic Keelboat NEW
Done with dinghies? Before you enjoy the satisfaction of steering a keelboat
out of the harbor by yourself, you need a foundation of basic navigation, weather,
anchoring, and cruise planning.
- On-the-water, taught in 22 Hunter 216s, Class limit 6
- Prerequisite: Beginner II or Director approval
- Course goal: Intro to keelboat sailing
- Course fee: $300 (meets 2 days/ wk. for 3 wks.)

Fast Track I Weekend Beginner Class
This one-day accelerated class is a more intense version of Beginner Sailing
I, introducing new sailors with limited time to day sailing skills. This full
day session is your passport to hit the water fast. Breaks for lunch and demos.

- Prerequisite: CBC membership, busy schedule
- Course goal: Fast Track to CBC Green

This full day of dedicated learning will reinforce the basics learned in FastTrack

- Course goal: Fast Track to CBC Blue
