CBC Youth Skill Levels - NEW
Our standardized skill levels ensure that your child gets the most from his/her
sailing experience. At the start of each session, CBC instructors will evaluate
your childs skill level and further refine their personal sailing plan.
Once confident and capable in skills required of each category, he or she
will be recommended to advance to the next level. Most students require at
least two (2) sessions per level prior to advancing. Students will receive
a special keepsake to display their sailing achievement.
1 Green, SeaSprouts
Our SeaSprouts are green beginners introduced to the power of
the wind and taught the basic skills of sailing. This level covers safety,
seamanship and boat handling in winds up to 6 knots. Students learn safety,
nomenclature, rigging, sail handling, and steering a course.
2 Blue, WaterWise
These intermediate sailors will learn deep respect for the ocean blue. WaterWise
candidates learn reinforced basics and master the skills of upwind sailing,
proper docking and sailing a triangular course. Students also learn to navigate,
read charts, anchor, and other skills needed to experience the freedom and
excitement of a blue-water cruising journey.
3 Yellow, SailingStars
These rising stars have a bright future as advanced CBC sailors. Well
focus on sailing theory, advanced trim, docking and safety techniques
all on performance boats designed to challenge even the most advanced sailing
appetite. It is not unusual to find that kids who never excelled in any other
activity often find their niche in sailing.
4 Orange, Instructor Assistants
T eaching is the ultimate way to give back to the sport. Sailing is for all
kinds of people not just racers. Those who share their passion for
wind and sea and master the mechanics of a complex sailing vessel are rewarded
with a new sense of self worth and pride in accomplishment.
5 Red, Racers
Friendly, fun, and fast racing is the best way to advance boat-handling skills
and learn from others. We take the intimidation of complex rules and pressure-to-perform
out of the mix with an emphasis on fun. Racers learn starts, tactical tips,
and winning strategies to establish competitive sailing as a lifelong interest.
Sail All Season!
CBC sailing lessons allow your child to learn an exciting new sport, advance
his/her skill level, meet new kids, or just experience the fun and learning
opportunities that only sailing has to offer all season long!
Non-sailors may ask, why sailing? when Providence already has organizations
that offer a variety of youth sports and recreational programs. There are few
(if any) activities that teach so many important virtues and lessons about life
the way sailing does: cause and effect, problem-solving, science and technology,
teamwork, and much more.
Choose the Session(s) Right for Your Child
Although
membership to CBC
is required to take lessons, our multiple sessions make it easy to create a
custom, progressive learning schedule, or mesh with your summer vacation plans.
Youth lessons are offered in four (4) Summer Camp sessions and six (6) After-School
sessions. CBCs flexible and affordable format allows you to start building
your childs lesson plan today for a season to remember.
