Harry Carr (1940-1999) was an avid sailor throughout his life, beginning with his childhood summers on Prudence Island. He took up the sport after a doctor recommended plenty of fresh air for a respiratory ailment, went on to win a number of Narragansett Bay championships in several classes of boats, and in adult life was a well known competitor on the international sailing scene.
In the 1970s he and his brother James took over the family business, H. Carr and Sons, a construction firm estabished by their grandfather, Harry Carr. While the firm retains its Rhode Island roots, its operations have spread throughout southern New England and now it employs over 700 people. Please join us in thanking H. Carr and Sons and our premier building sponsors for making our new boathouse a reality.
